Industry History

The California Sand Finish.

The California Sand Finish is a decorative concrete technique that produces a fine, weathered surface texture without the structural compromises of acid-etching the substrate. The lineage of the finish belongs to a specific group of California contractors who developed and refined the method over two decades. The Protocol Creator learned the technique inside that lineage. The mention is industry history, not protocol doctrine.

The Lineage

The Protocol Creator learned the California Sand Finish in Sun Valley, California, between 2006 and 2008, from the decorative concrete crews working it at the time. The technique originated in 2003 with acid etching of a glossy polymer concrete surface. Safer alternatives developed later replaced the acid in the production sequence and reduced both worker exposure and substrate damage.

The Sand Finish lineage is referenced here because the institutional record of who built the technique should be preserved. The finish itself is a decorative method, not a PSIP-locked module. Whether the California Sand Finish becomes a formal PSIP add-on module is a future decision held in the PSSG business architecture layer. For now, the lineage stands on the founder page as part of the Protocol Creator's authority surface in the decorative concrete trade.

The Institutional Layer

The architecture is built to outlast its founder.

PSIP operates as an institution, not a brand. The Protocol Creator built the framework and stepped back. The Technical Advisory Council, once seated, holds full authority over all mechanical and scientific decisions for the protocol. The Protocol Creator does not override TAC technical decisions. The founding cohort is appointed one time only, at Council formation. After the founding cohort is seated, the TAC holds exclusive authority over all subsequent seats, member succession, removals, and TAC structure modifications.

This is not a gesture. It is the structural precondition for the protocol's credibility. An institutional standard that depends on its founder is not an institutional standard. It is a brand. PSIP is built to be a standard.

The founder's role ends where the institution begins.
